Why do British people wear paper crowns on Christmas?

The wearing of crowns at parties and holidays is said to have originated from Roman Saturnalia festival celebrations, where everyone wore a pileus cap in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture and the harvest. This tradition of wearing paper hats is usually observed in the U.K. and Commonwealth counties like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
