My mom and dad would read it to me with great enthusiasm, building up the exciting part where all the dogs curiously are going up the tree ... wait for it (page turn) ... a DOG PARTY! (Squeal of delight.) This fun, surprising conclusion captured my imagination, and I've never forgotten it. So I was thinking about what (besides a party) a real dog might be so excited about that could be up a tree, and a canopy of tree branches shaped like dog bones came to mind."
