What is the personal significance to you of the Butterfly design?
Kyle says: "My family spent summers in the forests of Humboldt County in northern California during the 1960s. My dad was building a very unusual 12-sided cabin and my sister and I would play outdoors from sunrise to sunset. There were gorgeous butterflies that would dance above our heads as we chased them - giant yellow Swallowtails, bright orange Monarchs, and many others - that were so much more common then. Their bright colors would stand out dramatically against the dark forest trees or dry open areas of brush. The very first piece of artwork that my mother saved of mine was that of a Monarch butterfly that I drew with crayons when I was 3-1/2. I'm not surprised that it would be a butterfly because they were so striking. I still have this drawing."

What makes butterfly wings so colorful?
Based on the knowledge that butterfly wings are covered with scales, each of which are a single color, Kyle has made available a variety of background colors to compliment the wings of a butterfly. Her iridescent film collection is a favored choice for butterfly gifts because it so accurately resembles the pigmentation and iridescence that is produced from the reflective microstructure on the surface of the butterfly's scales.
