What does the Kokopelli symbol mean?
Kokopelli is believed to have originally been a pictograph depicting ancient Aztec traders. This symbolic figure mainly presides over childbirth and agriculture, as well as the reproduction of game animals. Although he predominantly worshiped as a fertility deity, he is also considered a tricksters, musician, insect, roaming salesman, seducer, magician and warrior. This is why he can be illustrated with a flute, cane or phallus.

What is the origin of Kokopelli?
As a fertility deity, the first depiction of Kokopelli was found on pottery dating between 750-850 AD. Appearing on rock art, clay housewares and ancient jewelry, the Kokopelli figure has been worshiped since the time of Ancient Pueblo communities and is still a predominate symbol within Native American tribes. The humpbacked flute player is said to carry unborn children on his back to distribute to women. Today, he has been adopted as a symbol of Southwestern culture.

What are some recognizable characteristics of the Kokopelli figure?
The Kokopelli depiction can be found on anything from furniture, jewelry, pottery and even clothing. Earlier depictions illustrate Kokopelli with a very insect-like appearance in a dance form and is often represented with a large phallus symbolizing the seeds of human reproduction.

My contractor did a bad job cutting out the opening for the electrical box. Do you sell larger Kokopelli decorative switch plates that will cover the imperfections?

Our kitchen remodel includes new granite counters and back splash. Will the standard size screws that are included with the switch plate be long enough to secure the plates, or will I need longer screws to accommodate the raised surface?
Longer screws are often needed when thicker surfaces are installed. The standard length screw size for rocker and Despard switch plate openings are 1/4", and 1/2" for all other switch plate openings (toggles, outlets, blanks, cable, etc.) Take a quick look at your setup or check with the installer to confirm if the standard length screws will be sufficient. If you require longer screws, we sell extra long screws in 1" and 1.5" lengths in 8 finishes.

The Kokopelli decorative overlay was designed to be installed vertically, and looks best when installed up and down. But if you do not mind the design being on its side, it still looks beautiful installed horizontally.
