GE RS232 Ivory Low Voltage Switch
Where can I find the original GE RFS-6 light switches for my older GE low voltage lighting system?
Many vintage GE low voltage wiring systems from the 1940s to the 1980s were installed with RFS-6, RFS-7, RFS-8 and RFS-9 momentary contact switches; unfortunately, these particular switch models have been discontinued. GE now manufactures updated pushbutton style low voltage switches that are a direct replacement for the standard RFS series light switches: the GE RS2-32 in ivory, GE RS2-37 in white and GE RS2-39 in gray. For the discontinued RFS-8 pilot light switch, GE now offers the RS2-32P ivory switch and RS2-37P white switch, both of which include a small red dot that is lighted when the switch is on. If you need to replace both switch plates and light switches, we recommend pairing any of the RS series switches with the modern Snap In style cover plates. Why are low voltage replacement switches and switch plates so hard to find? Vintage low voltage lighting systems were originally installed in mid-century U.S. homes during 1940 to 1980. Because of their unique remote control functionality, allowing homeowners to control all of their house lights from one master location, they were considered a high-end luxury feature for the time. Most of these once-popular electrical systems have now become obsolete, limiting the availability of low voltage replacement parts. Kyle Design currently carries updated name brand equipment from original low voltage pioneers such as General Electric, Touch-Plate and Remcon, and has researched the best replacement options for Bryant and Sierra wiring systems. Visit GE Low Voltage Replacement Parts for our full selection of rare low voltage switches, hard to find wall plates, remote control relays and mounting brackets that are regularly stocked and ready to ship at Kyle Design. My GE original style RFS-6switch is 25V, but this replacement is 24V. Will this cause an issue? No, it will not cause an issue. The new style replacements are only 24V. You are able to install a switch that pulls less voltage without it effecting the system. A problem would only occur if you installed a switch that pulls more voltage because it will overhaul the system. Ships in 1 - 2 business days. Flat rate ground. Need it faster?
