Can I use a dimmer switch for my compact fluorescent bulb?
No, this device is only made to work with halogen and incandescent light bulbs. If you do hook this dimmer up to a light with a CFL, it will only turn off or on to it's full brightness. It will not dim.

Yes. This rotary dimmer replaces any standard single pole switch.
