Info About Bracket Mount Low Voltage Wall Switch Plates & Devices

GE Bracket Mount Low Voltage Series

GE Bracket Mount Low Voltage Switch Plates

General Electric released their current line of low voltage bracket mounting switch plates during the late 80s. Designed for use with newer GE low volt push button switches and updated "diamond" mounting straps, these bracket mount wall covers offer convenient hassle-free installation - just unscrew and replace your old face plates while leaving mounted devices and brackets intact in the wall. A great replacement option if you need to upgrade an older defective rocker switch or if you've lost an original RA series metal strap, both of which are discontinued.

GE Low Voltage Bracket Mount Switchplate Sizes

The GE bracket mount series includes UL approved low voltage switch plates for One Switch, Two Switches, Three Switches and Four Switches. Other GE electrical devices and hardware include 1 Gang Mounting Brackets, 2 Gang Metal Yokes, Low Voltage Light Switches and Mechanical Relays. Bracket mounted cover plates require a metal "diamond" strap to mount devices and install directly into existing electrical boxes with box mounting screw holes.

GE Bracket Mount Switchplate Series Dimensions & Specs

Bracket mounted low voltage switchplates for newer GE switches are available with one, two, three or four vertical openings for these bracket or yoke mounted switches. Each device opening is 1.178" tall by .756" across, spaced .906" apart with "device mounting" bracket screw holes measuring 2.375" apart center to center. Plates are designed for GE RS2 series low voltage switches, including unlighted, lighted (locator), pilot light and raise-lower devices.

Diamond Shape Mounting Straps for Bracket Mount Switchplates

These durable steel diamond shape mounting yokes are specifically made for use with newer GE bracket mount wall plates. Available in single gang configurations for 1 to 2 switches or double gang sizes for 3 or 4 devices, this RPB2 strap series will work with newer GE RS2 series push button type light switches but is not compatible with older RFS rocker style devices.

New GE Low Voltage RS2 Series Light Switches

The original GE RFS rocker switches have been discontinued; the current replacement part is the newer GE RS2 series push button device. Slightly larger and deeper in size, the RS2 series switch will work with the current GE bracket mounting switch plate covers and diamond-shaped metal straps whereas the older RFS series will not. These momentary switches are available in standard unlighted, locator lighted and pilot lighted.

Pilot Light Devices & Relays in Low Volt Wiring Systems

If your low volt system is currently wired for pilot lights, select the GE RS2-32P pilot light switch to replace a worn or stuck lighted switch or the General Electric RR9 solenoid relay that features 5 wires for pilot lighting capability.

Using GE Low Voltage Parts in Bryant Wiring Systems

The original Bryant line of low voltage lighting components is no longer manufactured and same-brand replacement parts are not available. If you are needing to repair or update your vintage Bryant lighting system, we recommend using GE brand 24V momentary switches, mechanical latching solenoid relays and low voltage wall plates as a compatible alternative.

Using Touch-Plate Low Volt Switches in GE & Bryant Systems

Touch-Plate low voltage switches can be used to replace damaged or worn devices in GE and Bryant lighting systems. An attractive option for updating your home, Touch-Plate devices have two wires that perform the same function as the three wires on GE and Bryant switches; in order to turn a switch on and off then, you must replace every 1 GE or Bryant device with 2 Touch-Plate buttons. Review our Low Voltage Switch Compatibility Guide for more details.
