Engraving Instructions - Tips for Success

Please follow these guidelines and review font example photos when selecting your custom engraving.

• Text Length: Please note, the longer the text line, the smaller the font must be. Print out your message and measure if you are not sure.
• Capitalization: If you use all upper-case letters, plan on making your text string shorter, otherwise letters may be very crammed and difficult to read. All upper-case letters is NOT recommended with Script font.
• Font Choice: Please choose font according to how bold or understated you would like it.
  "Contemporary" font can be difficult to read on brushed finishes.
• Standard Height: Select TEXT for smaller words or initials that will be about 3/16" high. Appropriate for most engraving jobs.
• Large Height: Select MONOGRAM HEIGHT for large words or initials that will be about 1/2" high. Appropriate when there is no design in the same area.
• Standard Monogram Engraving Styles:
  Three Same-Size Letters: Arranged as First Name/Middle Name/Last Name order - ex. ABC.
• Oversized Centered Last Name Initial: Arranged as last name initial centered between first and middle names - First Name/Large Last Name/Middle Name. Be sure oversized last name initial is in CENTER when entering letters - ex. ACB (Letters will be center aligned).
• Text with Special Characters: Letters with special markings, for ex. accent over "e" or "a", can ONLY be engraved in Contemporary, Cursive, Optima or Script, although not all characters are available. (For ex., a tilde used simply as a wavy dash is NOT available in any font.) We will substitute a similar character or will contact you if none is available.
• No Engraving on Black Card Cases: Sorry, we are no longer able to engrave on black business card cases, however you may select and engraving plate that can be placed inside the lid. (Select engraving plate in the drop down menu.)
• Location: Gift items with designs that cover the whole front may be engraved on the BACK only.
• Lead Time: All engraving is done in-house and does not delay your order.
• Black Business Card Cases: We can engrave a plate placed inside the lid. Metal finish will match design, or will default to silver.

• Pricing: Gift engraving starts at $5.95 for one line. Engraving price is per item/location, so front and back are two separate engraving jobs. +$ amounts in menus ADD to base price of $5.95.
• Layout Comments: Please allow for engraver's artistic choice in layout. Please contact us if you have a size or layout preference on any job as we are happy to accommodate your requests.
• No Returns: Engraved gift items are not returnable. Enter text exactly as desired. We are not responsible for upper case/lower case or spelling errors on your part.
• Long Engraving Options: If you need to engrave up to nine lines or up to 60 characters in a text string (where spaces allows), please use Multiple Line Engraving.
• If ordering more than one engraved gift, please enter each item number (from shopping cart SKU) or distinguishing option (case with blue vs. case with red) in Item # or Description box so it is absolutely clear which item is to receive which engraving.

International and Foreign Language Engraving

Kyle Design has the capability to engrave many special characters found in other non-English speaking countries.

• Foreign Languages Engraving: In addition to English, we can engrave in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Greek, some Czech, Russian.
• Limitations: Please note that any special characters entered into text boxes (including the Order Notes section during checkout) on our site will NOT translate to legible characters. (They will show up as either a box with a question mark in it or with another random letter substituted for it making it impossible to tell that it is wrong.) You must describe the character - an E with an accent starting at the top left and going to the bottom right (È grave accent), an a with an accent starting at the bottom left and going to the top right (á acute accent), a U with two dots over it (Ü umlaut), an n with a wavy line (ñ tilde), a C with a small squiggle under it (Ç cedillia), an o with a slash through it (ø slash), etc.

Can I add engraving to any product on the site?
No, switch plates, badge holders, and electrical devices cannot be engraved, for example. As an optional solution for some items, please consider ordering engraving tags that can be attached separately to your item.

How do I know if I can have my item engraved?
Only items that have engraving built into their options may possibly have room to add engraving in a second location. Check the engraving options on your item to see if more than one engraving location is available. If there are additional locations available as options, then you may order the additional engraving here in one of those other locations. Again, only order engraving here if you are adding engraving in a secondary location on the *same* item.
