Tamper-Resistant Sockets - A Safer Alternative
Tamper resistant devices, sometimes referred to as tamper proof (although that cannot be guaranteed), are the preferred circuit plate where a safe secure environment is a priority.- Safety: Tamper resistant outlets require no adult action to maintain safety and are a proven safety solution that prevent painful injuries. These innovative receptacles are safer than plastic outlet safety plug caps which one can easily forget to replace and which can be a choking hazard. They are more convenient than sliding shutter plates. (Note: shuttered wall plates are no longer UL-listed due to heat-related safety concerns.)
- NEC and CEC Requirements: Tamper-resistant outlets are required in new residential construction by the 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC) and the 2009 Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). UL listed.
